Another step in preparing for your puppy is having the services you'll need chosen and set up before the puppy arrives. These services could include:

  • Veterinarian

  • Groomers

  • Boarding

  • Dog walker

  • Trainer (Puppy Kindergarten)

There are a few things you can do now to choose and set up these services. To start your search, ask your friends, family, and community members which service providers they recommend. This will be much more effective than a Google search. If your friends can't recommend any services, then try a Google search, but be sure to look at the reviews and testimonials for each business.

Next, it's a good idea to give the businesses you are interested in a phone call. Ask them if they are taking new clients and what their availability is like. Check to make sure their hours work with your schedule and their prices work with your budget.

Finally, go ahead and book the services you know you'll need right away. Here are some time frames you should work within:

  • Vet - schedule an appointment for 48 hours after you pick up your puppy. This exam will not include any vaccinations, but they may request a stool sample to make sure your puppy is free of parasites.

  • Grooming - 4 - 8 weeks after you bring the puppy home (but not before they've finished their vaccine boosters!). This will probably include a nail trim and bath, but not clipping. It's good to get your puppy used to the groomer at a young age.

  • Boarding/Dog Walker - If you will need your puppy to go to a boarding, daycare facility, or be walked while you are at work on a regular basis, book them per your schedule.

  • Puppy Kindergarten - You may take your puppy to a kindergarten or socialization class as soon as 8 weeks old as long as they've had their first round of vaccinations (which they will if you are buying from Joley Aire!).

I hope this helps you prepare for your new puppy! Good luck finding the best services!
