Nermal’s Paw is Better!
Nermal from the Garfield litter broke her foot a month ago. We had noticed her limping and took her in for an x-ray. Sure enough, her foot had been fractured in a few spots. We suspect Suki stepped on her. The vet put her foot in a splint and instructed us to keep it clean and dry. My, what a difficult task that was! She seemed to be attracted to dirt and mud like a fly to light.
Well, last Thursday, just days before her appointment to have the splint taken off, we noticed she was limping on that leg. It was difficult to tell at first because the splint caused her to have a funny gait anyway, but we concluded that we needed to investigate a little more. Unfortunately, she had developed a sore at the top of the cast. We went ahead and removed the splint ourselves and treated the sore. Thankfully, it wasn’t deep or nearly as bad as we thought it was at first. With only a few days away from her next appointment, we decided to just keep her in a crate so she didn’t re-injure the foot in case it wasn’t healed all the way.
At the vet, we explained why the cast was off and she reassured me that we did the right thing. They took her back for the x-ray and came back with the good news that the break healed beautifully! I breathed a sigh of relief since she’s supposed to leave for California on Wednesday.
As I was typing this I noticed Nermal was being strangely quiet. I found the little imp in the shoe closet happily chewing on my brand-new sandals! I guess she wanted to make sure we didn’t forget her.
