I had been tricked.
I had been tricked. I thought I was keen when it came to avoiding scams and pitfalls, but my lack of experience showed the moment Izzy walked into our door. This dog, whom the breeder said was “really sweet” and “loves everybody” stood quivering in the doorway with a wild and fearful look in her eye. With a pit in my stomach, I realized that I had just paid thousands of dollars for an unhealthy dog that had probably spent her entire life in a confined space and there was nothing I could do about it. She had come from states away and the breeder wouldn’t take her back, I was not about to surrender her to a shelter, and I couldn’t rehome her because the poor thing seemed so traumatized already.
We learned to live with Izzy and tried our best to win her over, but she was not the family dog that I was planning to buy. That experience completely changed how we would buy future puppies.

We hate what scammers and unethical people have done in the dog breeding and rescue world and have a heart for educating people so they can go through the puppy-buying process with confidence.
