The Birth of The Duck Dynasty Litter

I’m writing this a little late as it’s been 3 whole weeks since Minka’s litter was born, however, I think it’s still worth sharing the story of how her puppies came into the world.

DUCK DYNASTY LITTER BIRTH STORY

Minka is a veteran mom, so we were pretty relaxed leading up to her due date. That being said, we always bring the moms into the house a week before and keep almost a constant watch on them.

On the morning of the 12th, we had to leave for a few hours. Minka was panting but didn’t seem to be in labor yet, so we turned on the video monitors and left. Well, she managed to open the door to the room she was in, so we couldn’t see her for quite a while. We found her happily nestled in the basement closet where we store blankets. I’ll admit, if I were a dog, that’s where I’d want to have my puppies. It was cozy and dark and quiet down there. However, I couldn’t let her stay there. The laundry afterward would be a nightmare! So, I had to forcefully pull her out of her den and bring her back to her room.

That transition must have strengthened her contractions because she birthed a beautiful tri-color merle puppy after only a few moments in her whelping box.

The rest of the delivery went as smoothly as we could have hoped for. One puppy, Si, gave me a brief scare as he took a little long to start breathing well, but after a good rub down and clearing of his mouth and nose with the bulb syringe, he was fine.

Minka delivered 6 beautiful puppies - 2 females and 4 males. You can see them by clicking the button below.

This litter feels especially sweet because Minka’s last litter ended in tragedy. She was pregnant with only one puppy who died during birth. She was able to become a surrogate mom for Akira’s large litter, but it was sad that she couldn’t have her puppies. She seems to be very happy raising these six puppies.

THE THEME FOR THIS LITTER

We decided on the theme, Duck Dynasty, since the kids were recently introduced to the show. I forgot how much I love the Robertson family and all their crazy antics! I’m a little sad we didn’t get to have a “John Luke”, “Sadie”, or “Jep” puppy to name, but happy we could get most of the main characters in.

THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF LIFE

The only significant thing about the first three weeks of this litter’s life is how quickly we found homes for them all! By week 2 1/2 every puppy was reserved! Something we haven’t experienced since 2021 and the crazy, COVID puppy boom. We’re extremely thankful for every one of our customers! They are truly what makes this the BEST job ever!
