Breeder Information

First, thank you for your interest in one of our puppies! It’s also so affirming when other breeders express interest in them. On this page, you’ll find all the information you need for purchasing a puppy from us for breeding purposes. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, I just want to say that we are very supportive of small or beginning breeding programs. Everyone needs to start somewhere and I don’t believe the market will be over flooded. There are plenty of loving puppy homes to go around if you know how to find them. With that being said, we do have a few additional requirements for those intending to breed for the best interest of the puppy, ourselves, and you, the customer.

Please read through all the information on this page and fill out the Breeder Application form.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We are happy to work with other breeders, but we ask that you meet a few additional requirements.

  • Most breeders charge an additional fee to waive the spay/neuter contract or leave the “Full rights” number visible on the AKC registration form. We don’t have a spay/neuter contract (I can explain why if you really want to know) and Bernedoodles can’t be registered with the AKC, so we don’t charge for breeding rights in the same way other breeders do.

Instead, we are offering a “Breeder Package” that you may purchase if you are planning to breed the puppy you are buying from us. This includes beneficial add-ons to support you as a breeder.

    The Breeder Package costs $500.

  • ✔ We will complete genetic testing on one puppy of your choice through Embark. ($159 value)

✔ Baxter & Bella affiliate opportunity. (You get $50 income per sign up)

✔ NuVet affiliate opportunity. (You get 15% of sales income)

✔ Puppy Culture enrollment. ($141 value)

✔ Breeder support - we’ve been breeding since 2017 and have learned a lot during that time. We’re always happy to answer questions and assist our breeder package customers. (Value = Priceless)

✔ Waive the fee for transferring to another litter if a suitable puppy is not within the litter you signed up for. ($100 value)

  • As a breeder, you are going to need to be much more picky about the puppy you choose. Normally, we charge a $100 fee to change picks once a puppy is reserved, but when you purchase the Breeder Package, we will waive that fee to give you more freedom to choose.

Please know, if you do not purchase the Breeder Package, you will have to pay the $100 fee if you switch puppies.

  • To be sure your puppy is suitable for breeding, we will happily conduct genetic testing through Embark.

We cannot provide this service for a puppy that is older than 6 weeks old as there won’t be enough time to get the test back.

Breeder Disclosure

At Joley Aire, we believe in doing business with integrity. We built our breeding program with pet homes and families as the top priority. in the interest of transparency, please consider this disclosure statement before buying a puppy for breeding:

All of our dogs are genetically tested and deemed a good fit within our program. Some of our dogs carry Degenerative Myelopathy. Because our stud does not carry it, the puppies will not be affected by the disease and we, therefore, are comfortable with the breeding. However, we do not recommend breeding a carrier to another carrier and it is imperative that all breeding prospects be genetically tested to rule out the possibility.

We also have not sought OFA certifications on all our dogs. There are many reasons for this decision:

First, the accuracy of the tests is questionable. We’ve heard several stories of a dog testing poorly once, then going back after a few months and passing with flying colors. Apparently the test results can vary whether anesthesia is used or not. We are still looking into the best type of test to yield accurate results.

Second, there is the fact that even a dog with perfectly tested parents may end up with hip dysplasia. Testing their hips does not guarantee they will not be affected by the disease. We prefer to take the route of education on how to prevent problems in the future through good diet, exercise, keeping puppies off stairs, and off slippery surfaces.

Third, we offer a generous health guarantee to take responsibility if problems do arise in the puppies we produce. In our years of breeding, no one has ever taken advantage of the guarantee.

OFA certifications may be something we move toward in the future, but for now, the fact is that our dogs are not all tested. If this is something you are adamant about for your breeding program, we may not be a good fit for you.

The next disclosure we’d like to bring forth is in regards to the Merle coloring. Merle colored dogs are stunning, but there are health problems that can arise because of the color. It is not advisable to breed a merle dog to another merle dog. The resulting puppies have a 25% chance of being born blind and deaf. Some dogs, especially lighter colored ones, carry the merle gene without expressing it, therefore, it is important that every puppy be genetically tested for color to make sure they are not merle carriers if breeding to another merle.

To reiterate the most important points in this disclosure: we are happy to work with other breeders, but please know that producing breeding dogs is not our focus. Our dogs are all genetically tested, but not all of them are OFA certified. We ask that you take caution when breeding merle dogs if you choose to do so. We are providing this information in the interest of honesty and full disclosure.
